Welcome to Threshold, a boutique private gym facility located in West Chelsea, offering one-on-one instruction in a unique setting - a completely private, meditative, art-filled environment. The surroundings reflect the philosophy- close personal attention with an emphasis on the role of mental focus in the health of body and mind.

Services include Super Slow Weight Training, Holistic Health Counseling, Thai-Yoga Massage and Movement Practices. The unique ambience is a welcome alternative to other gyms, it's a white-washed artist's loft accented with burgundy walls, Moroccan doors and Persian rugs- an original vision for rough-hewn luxury - expert training, advanced scientific methods, quality equipment but in a private room with no tv, no treadmills, no music and no mirrors. An oasis for the body mind and spirit.

SERVICES:

SUPER-SLOW HIGH INTENSITY EXERCISE INSTRUCTION
Threshold specializes in Slow Training. The fundamental key to this training is moving very slowly throughout a full range of motion until one experiences momentary fatigue. We call this momentary fatigue "the Threshold", which is a combination of physiological and psychological expectations being pushed to some limit. We help our clients move beyond those thresholds into unknown and exciting territory each time we work together.

In a focused 30-45 minute session using state of the art rehabilitative weight training equipment designed by Med-X and Super-Slow Systems each client is taken through a full body work-out designed to address their specific goals and health concerns. It is a highly effective approach for achieving results with weight reduction and body toning while sharpening mental focus.

Slow training provides a safe, time efficient and highly rigorous work out.

We believe that awareness in exercise changes weight-lifting into a practice in mindfulness. Our unique approach has helped our clients to achieve a level of physical and emotional health previously unknown to them, enabling them to overcome personal barriers in all aspects of their lives.

HOLISTIC HEALTH COUNSELING
Threshold offers nutritional counseling to support clients in making balanced choices and changes surrounding food and lifestyle. Mindfulness practices are taught as a way to develop inner awareness of the body and its nutritional needs. A personal nutritional program is designed based on gender, age, height, weight, culture, metabolism, and level of physical activity. We believe that our bodies are designed to need natural, whole foods, exercise and love. 45 minute session.

THAI YOGA MASSAGE
A one-and-a-half hour session that begins with a foot bath and foot massage. The client wears loose comfortable clothes. The practitioner moves you into yogic postures and deep stretches on a cushioned mat on the floor then applies acupressure-like massage along opened meridians that can lead to deep healing and relaxation.

MOVING into CONSCIOUSNESS
In a practice also known as authentic movement or contemplative dance, the practitioner acts as a witness to the moment-to-moment unfolding as the client follows impulses to move or be still. With eyes closed and attention turned inward the client is invited to explore. The 45 minute private session in an open movement studio is divided into 25 minutes moving and 20 minutes dialoging. This is an approach for working with thoughts and feelings in a physical setting. It is not a substitute for therapy but it is therapeutic.

Lowell Boyers 'just do the exercise the zen will be there'

In 1997 Lowell opened Lowell Shop, a small private training gym in Chelsea. In 1999 Lowell was named Best Personal Trainer by New York Press. In 2003 he opened THRESHOLD: fitness beyond the physical with his wife Eileen Kelly. Lowell continues to pursue personal training while maintaining a successful career as a painter. He is represented by Briggs Robinson Gallery.

Eileen Kelly 'a good coach is a guide on the side'

Eileen's vision for integrating wellness services with weight training led to the development of Threshold. Her background as a professional dancer is the foundation for her comprehensive approach to one-on-one personal training. She is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a board certified Holistic Health Counselor certified by The American Association of Drugless Practitioners, a thai-yoga massage practitioner from the Lotus Palm tradition and a practitioner in Contemplative Dance. She specializes in home-sessions for elderly or frail clients unable to come to the gym.

Barbara Ann Singer 'feel your body surprisingly strong'

Barbara Ann Singer has practiced as a Superslow and American Heart Association certified personal fitness instructor for over six years, specializing in helping clients with joint and spine injuries, bone-density enhancement, improving cardiovascular health, and post rehabilitation fitness. In addition to her fitness practice she is a singer in a dance/band and performs regularly as an improv comedian.
